CrossFit classes are general structured in the following way: a short warm up session, skill development and strength work, and finally some type of high-intensity workout that can last anywhere from 5 to 25 minutes. Affiliate gyms or “boxes” usually refer to the activities of as the “WOD” or “workout of the day.” In order to motivate members to reaching their full potential, a lot of gyms use tracking software that allows you to see your results over time. So when you come in and can’t possibly do a pull up on day 1, you can track your strength progress over time until you get that pull up.

Sometimes WODs are taken directly from CrossFit.com. These “Benchmark” workouts are usually done in order to track your progress on a single workout across weeks or months. These workouts published on the CrossFit website typically have thousands of results already posted online from other CrossFit athletes that you can compare to, even in your specific age and weight range. This gives you a great idea of how you stack up to others in a similar category to you.

The overhead squat is certainly an interesting movement that tells a lot about our health.

There’s no benefit to loading up a OHS bar if the bar cannot be kept in a well-supported position. Muscles misfire due to unnatural movement patterns leading to imbalance and potential injury. Done habitually, it’ll erode you and you’ll find it pretty frustrating to reach your max potential.
